Our Story

Sean Eacrett has over 30 years’ experience in the antiques business. At the age of 16, following in the family tradition of carpentry, he started a cabinet makers’ apprenticeship with Billy Dann in Tullamore and later moved to Dublin to complete it. The next step was a restoration business and antiques shop (which he was a partner in setting up) on Francis Street in Dublin.

Preferring country living, Sean returned to his home in Laois where he built a purpose built restoration workshop. When the recession came people held back from buying antiques or getting furniture restored and so Ashgrove Auction Rooms was set up in 2005. The business quickly grew and operated in a number of locations; Ballybrittas, Portarlington and Naas as well as running on-site auctions. Ashgrove was also the first auction house in Ireland to offer online bidding for auctions. During this time Ashgrove held some extraordinary auctions including auctioning the estate of Cholmeley Dering Cholmeley-Harrison of Emo Court and the “Penny Dreadful” auction of props etc. from the Sky TV show.

After 10 years, a change was needed and Sean returned to a family run business. He set up Sean Eacrett Antiques & Auctions in Ballybrittas in February 2017, involving his mum Merle, wife Sinead and daughter Kate, Lily and son Ewan and getting together a great team of part-time staff.

The auctions side of the business caters for sales of full or part house clearances and offers a complete on-site auctions service as well as valuing and auctioning individual items consigned by the public. The auctions are not limited to antiques and a general sale could include anything from a lawnmower to an antique dining table to piece of modern art. Sale days at Sean Eacrett Antiques are also renowned for the great coffee & homemade treats by master baker Sinead – not to be missed!

Continuing in the family tradition of carpentry, there is a restoration service available for antiques. For anyone looking for an antique or interiors piece that is “home-ready”, they can peruse the Shop for pieces available to buy from the floor. Probate valuations are also available on request.
